Professional Summary:
Born in the Midwest but raised in Southern California as the eleventh of thirteen siblings, I could say my interest in health came about from my experience of living within a huge family. It wasn’t apparent at the time but later, when I attended Santa Barbara College of Oriental Medicine (SBCOM), that I was able to draw upon my knowledge of various medical conditions that family members had experienced. When I moved away to Santa Barbara at the age of twenty-one, a whole new world opened up to me in alternative care modalities.
Forgoing a career in accounting, I traded it in for a career in massage therapy, specializing in deep-tissue massage. I loved working with people and teaching them to “listen to their bodies” was very rewarding. But after fifteen-plus years of a career in massage, I needed help in overcoming chronic tendonitis that had developed in my arms and shoulders. Enter acupuncture. I truly believe that acupuncture saved my life not only with my injuries, but the emotional stability acupuncture treatments brought to me when I was going through some difficult times with the loss of a family member. It was what convinced me that it was time to fulfill my dream of higher education and take the plunge into another realm of healing. I haven’t looked back.
After graduating from SBCOM in 2005, I moved with my husband to Prescott to fulfill another dream of owning our own home. We both love the change of seasons and the beauty of the Arizona landscapes.
Not yet established in my new career, I volunteered with the now defunct Shanti Wellness Center in Prescott providing acupuncture to non-insured, low-income women. It was my experience working with these women, that healthcare needs to be available to all individuals and one of the reasons I am including Community Acupuncture in my scope of practice. My vision for the future of medicine is the integration of both Western and Eastern Medicine in treating the whole person; body, mind and spirit.
